A friend of mine shared this staggering statistic that 82% of working people are not satisfied with their job or career. I was stunned to hear that!!! That is what woke me up this morning and is what inspired this blog post. You may think I am nuts for what I am about to say, but I will remove all doubt about that. Look no further!!! I am nuts about a lot of different things… One thing I am nuts about and live for is to help people achieve their dream; or at least pursue it. I live to INSPIRE!!! I live to change someone’s perspective about their life. Your dream can be found right in the midst of what you’re doing if you “find the fun.”
Having played in the NFL but constantly being cut and brought back and going from team to team was a bit of an odyssey. When I’d make a final roster I was so concerned about making a mistake that I took some of the fun right out of it. Don’t get me wrong, I was thrilled to have reached this dream and the serious demand for perfection is naturally very high, but if I could go back and do it again I would have had more fun just being myself a little more and not worrying about my performance as much. I would be willing to say many of us have faced this barrier at some point in our lives. This brings me to the heart of this blog post.
I must have seen Mary Poppins a 100 times. It is truly one of my favorite kids movies of all times and it seems to resonate with my children as well. There is a line in the movie I am reminded of time and again. This line has been part of my parenting mantra when I am trying to get them to clean their rooms. I also try to personally embrace this philosophy in the “day to day” stress and demands of corporate America. So here is the line:
“In every job that must be done there is an element of fun, find the fun and SNAP, the jobs a game…
In the movie Mary Poppins then proceeds to break out into the song “A Spoonful Of Sugar…” I have this line and song posted on our YouTube channel FeedTheDreamTV. www.youtube.com/feedthedreamTV.
Call me crazy but I often get little messages and seeds of inspiration when watching children’s movies.
Check it out and receive a little joy. You can also watch it on our home page www.feedthedream.com.
I have heard people say, the greatest gift you can pass on is your story of adversity to success. Any battle you have fought and won on the job or in life has value. I strongly encourage you to go ahead and upload your story. Take 3 to 4 minutes to upload it on our YouTube channel. www.youtube.com/feedthedreamTV
Go ahead and share your story and pay-it forward. It could be the “spoonful of sugar” someone is looking for.
